Picross DS Cheats

Picross DS Unlockable: Mario Picross Extra Level
Finish all 10 levels in Normal Mode and an 11th, EXTRA stage gets unlocked. The Extra level, made up of 15 additional puzzles, features Mario character and block graphics, complete with sound effects.

Picross DS Hint: Free Puzzle Starts
When solving a Picross puzzle in a 10 x 10 grid (most normal level puzzles), here are some tips for quickly filling in spots on the grid:

  • If a column/row has a 10, you can automatically fill in the entire column/row.
  • If a column/row has a 9, you can automatically fill in the center 8 blocks of that column/row.
  • If a column/row has a 8, you can automatically fill in the center 6 blocks of that column/row.
  • If a column/row has a 7, you can automatically fill in the center 4 blocks of that column/row.
  • If a column/row has a 6, you can automatically fill in the center 2 blocks of that column/row.

Picross DS Hint: Series of 1s
If a column/row in a Picross puzzle has only 1s (like a series of 1 1 1 1), you can automatically put an X on either side of a filled in spot of that column/row, essentially letting you fill out three squares of the grid with just one solid block.

Picross DS Hint: Xs are Important
Effectively using X-marks to fill in the grid of a Picross puzzle is just as helpful in solving the puzzle as filling out solid blocks. When you run out of solid blocks that you can logically place in the grid, start looking for grid squares that cannot possibly have a solid block and fill those grid squares with Xs. After working in your Xs, you can go over the puzzle again to find the logical placement for more solid blocks.
