If you want to be able to select from twenty-four stages right off the bat instead of the normal twelve stages, go to the game’s first stage and pause your game. Then, hold the A button, press Select ten times, and lose your game. When you return to the main menu, you should be able to select from twenty-four stages instead of twelve.

This is a puzzle game, and often you can be left in a situation where you can’t win. If you want to be able to get out of the stage and head back to the main menu without having to reset your NES, press A, B, Start and Select simultaneously.
