To read the secret magazine in Earthbound, go to Onett. To the left of Onett there is a path. Follow the path to a house with two gentlemen standing out front. Talk to the man nearest to the house (the one without the saxophone) and buy the house from him. Now go inside your new home and snoop around behind dresser. You will be prompted with a dialog telling you that a magazine has been found... and it will ask if you want to read it.

Note: The exorbitant price of the home requires lots of money, or a finished the game.

Mother Hint: Save Money With Doctor

A great way to save money while needing to be healed is to deposit most (or almost all) of your cash before visiting the doctor. Since he takes half of the money you have on you to cure you when you visit him, he'll be forced to take half of nearly nothing if you deposit cash before going to see him.

Mother Hint: Dodge Enemy Encounters

A great way to avoid enemy encounters for the most part is to constantly go in and out of the game's main menu as you're walking around. This will cut down enemy encounters a great deal, though it's generally a bad idea to do this, since RPGs like this depend on you leveling your characters up to get through the game. Only do this if things are truly dire.

Mother Hint: Infinite Bottle Rockets

As soon as you get Loid in your party, you can return to Sweet's Factory. This is where you originally got a Bottle Rocket. However, after Loid joins the party, a trash can in the factory will give you an infinite amount of Bottle Rockets as you need them.
